Abstract

The urban environment is a powerful motivator for territorial mobility and the involvement of citizens, especially young adults. Participative design is necessary for the development of cities and the selfdevelopment of their inhabitants, expressed in the ability of young adults to independently implement their ideas and live in a comfortable urban space. This requires finding effective ways to involve this category of citizens in resolving issues of the development of the urban environment and the creation of a sustainable urban future. The article identifies and justifies effective processes, and the forms and methods of the participatory design of the urban future by young adults. These components are described using the example of researcher co-design, including participation in the City Transformers project, and experience working with young adults in Moscow and Krasnoyarsk. The main mechanisms for co-designing a sustainable urban future by young adults are consideredbuilding a communication environment, network interaction and strategic planning. Effective ways to immerse young adults in the issues of a sustainable urban future are solving cases, conducting research, focus group interviews, and organizing projects, seminars, workshops and communication games. This article can serve as the basis for the development of the conscious participation of young adults in the design and development of the city, and in participatory design for a sustainable urban future.
